Is jailbreaking legal?
Many people believe that jailbreak an idevice is illegal, but thanks to an act, it is legal to jailbreak or jailbreaking. When people hear the word jailbreak, the first question that they asks is “is it legal?” because if it was illegal, not many people would do it.
The answer to this question is yes its legal because it protected under the Digital Millennium copyright act (DMCA) with to an exemption added in October 2012.The following was added as the exemption to DMCA;
“computer programs that enable wireless telephone handsets to execute lawfully obtained software applications, where circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of enabling interoperability of such applications with computer programs on the telephone handset”
which means that third party software like Cydia is allowed to install and run aside by legal software with the purpose of being used inside of a telephone.
